Brazil’s Digital Banking Platform Nubank to Support Research Initiatives at Local Universities

Nubank, a major digital financial services platform, has announced the launch of NuFuturo, an innovative ecosystem developed in collaboration with Federal Universities in Brazil. The primary goal of this initiative is to accelerate careers in technology and foster innovation by encouraging research in the fields of technology and finance in the academic environment.

NuFuturo is currently available at the Federal Universities of Campina Grande (UFCG) and Bahia (UFBA and IFBA), with projects that commenced earlier this year. Following a rigorous selection process that involved nearly 300 applications, over 40 undergraduate and postgraduate students from these universities have been chosen to participate in an intensive 18-month program. This program aims to develop their research projects and technological skills, focusing on systems and technologies used by Nubank, such as Clojure programming and data analysis methodologies.

Guilherme Vieira, Nubank’s ESG director, stated that NuFuturo is an initiative designed to promote science and technology in Brazil. Nubank believes that investing in education is crucial in bringing about societal change through professional training and practical solutions to real-world problems faced by individuals and companies. Bahia and Paraíba were chosen as the initial locations for NuFuturo due to their talented workforce, as well as Nubank’s commitment to diversifying its investments outside of the Southeast region of Brazil.

To facilitate the development of these projects, Nubank has established physical spaces within the partner universities. These spaces have been specifically designed to enhance the experience of both teachers and students, featuring adaptable environments, collaboration boards, and multimedia systems. The aim is to create a physical environment that reflects the values of Nubank and the universities, promoting collaboration, diversity, and innovation.

Once the projects are completed, these locations will continue to be available for use by the academic community, enabling them to work, hold events, and engage in group activities. Currently, NuFuturo has four projects under development, with students from various majors, including Computer Science, Administration, and Software Engineering, working closely with both Nubank professionals and professors from UFCG, UFBA, and IFBA. The focus of these projects ranges from personal finance management to the development of tools aimed at simplifying people’s financial lives and enhancing information security.
