Circle Research’s inaugural contribution, Perimeter Protocol, is a set of smart contracts built on open standards that enables the seamless exchange of capital on secure, open, and public networks. While Circle has already made significant contributions with stablecoins like USDC and EURC, they recognize that unlocking credit on-chain through safe standards and underwriting is a barrier to entry for new participants in these markets.
To address this, Circle is releasing the Perimeter white paper and public GitHub Repo to advance the next building block of open protocol transacting: credit. Perimeter is designed to bring real-world assets and uncollateralized or undercollateralized loans with standards for underwriting and permissioning into a protocol that is offered as a public good.
Perimeter is flexible enough to accommodate various credit use cases, including invoice factoring for small and medium-sized businesses, institutional crypto credit for trading opportunities, global payroll advances, and instant settlement capabilities for merchant processing.
