Circle Launches Research Initiative to Boost Open Source Development in Crypto, Blockchain, and Web3

Circle Research has launched with the goal of accelerating and amplifying technical innovation within the crypto, blockchain, and Web3 sectors through open-source research. Their first open-source contribution is the Perimeter Protocol, which aims to set a new standard for building on-chain credit markets.

Circle believes in the power of shared knowledge and is committed to open-source principles. They aim to make their leading research accessible to the global community in order to contribute to the public good, enhance security standards, and accelerate innovation in the crypto, blockchain, and Web3 industries.

As a key player in the blockchain space, Circle brings valuable experience and a history of excellence. Circle Research builds on this legacy by adding fresh perspectives to solve complex problems, becoming a potent force in the world of open-source research and development.

Circle Research’s inaugural contribution, Perimeter Protocol, is a set of smart contracts built on open standards that enables the seamless exchange of capital on secure, open, and public networks. While Circle has already made significant contributions with stablecoins like USDC and EURC, they recognize that unlocking credit on-chain through safe standards and underwriting is a barrier to entry for new participants in these markets.

To address this, Circle is releasing the Perimeter white paper and public GitHub Repo to advance the next building block of open protocol transacting: credit. Perimeter is designed to bring real-world assets and uncollateralized or undercollateralized loans with standards for underwriting and permissioning into a protocol that is offered as a public good.

Perimeter is flexible enough to accommodate various credit use cases, including invoice factoring for small and medium-sized businesses, institutional crypto credit for trading opportunities, global payroll advances, and instant settlement capabilities for merchant processing.

Circle Research’s launch and the introduction of the Perimeter Protocol demonstrate their commitment to advancing technical innovation in the crypto, blockchain, and Web3 sectors. By leveraging open-source research and collaboration, they aim to drive progress, improve security standards, and foster innovation in these industries.
