Fintech Ripple Granted Full Licensing to Provide Digital Payment Token Services in Singapore

Ripple, the global payment solutions provider, has announced that it has secured its full Major Payments Institution (MPI) license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) for its subsidiary, Ripple Markets APAC Pte Ltd. This license allows Ripple to offer digital payment token services in Singapore, highlighting the practical use of cryptocurrency solutions for businesses and financial institutions.

Singapore is renowned for its commitment to digital asset regulation, making it an attractive hub for businesses and financial institutions looking to leverage the potential of crypto. The country is known for striking a balance between innovation, consumer protection, and responsible growth. Ripple has recognized this favorable environment and established its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore since 2017.

Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, expressed the importance of Singapore in Ripple’s global strategy. He commended MAS for its leadership and emphasized the significant role that Singapore plays in the fintech and digital asset space. Ripple has been expanding its presence in Singapore, hiring local talent and doubling its headcount in the past year.

Singapore’s success as a digital asset hub can be attributed to regulatory clarity, which ensures security and trust for businesses and institutions exploring cryptocurrency solutions. In contrast to other countries that are wary of crypto innovation, Singapore is forward-thinking and future-proofing its economy.

The global financial community recognizes that digital assets are here to stay. According to a survey, 90% of finance leaders believe that blockchain and digital assets will have a significant impact on business, finance, and society in the next three years. Additionally, nearly half of Asia Pacific finance leaders plan to use cryptocurrencies for cross-border payments.

Ripple acknowledges the growing trend of digital payments in the Asia Pacific region, with cashless transactions projected to increase by 109% by 2025. As a result, Ripple will continue to prioritize this region for the adoption of its global payment solutions.

With its full MPI license secured in Singapore, Ripple is well-positioned to accelerate the adoption of cryptocurrency solutions for businesses and financial institutions, further solidifying its presence in the Asia Pacific market. Singapore’s proactive approach to digital asset regulation ensures that it remains at the forefront of the industry, driving innovation and fostering economic growth.
