PhonePe, a digital payments platform in India, has announced the launch of the Indus Appstore Developer Platform. This platform invites all Android app developers to register and upload their apps, which will be listed on the upcoming “Made-in-India” Indus Appstore.
The Indus Appstore aims to provide a localized experience for Indian users, offering the app listings in 12 languages specifically tailored for Indian audiences. Developers can take advantage of this platform as it will be free for the first year, with a nominal annual fee to be applied thereafter.
Unlike other app stores, the Indus Appstore will not charge developers any platform fees or commission for in-app payments. Developers have the freedom to integrate any payment gateway they choose within their own apps.
Akash Dongre, CPO & Co-Founder of Indus Appstore expressed excitement about the opportunity to build a new-age, localized Android app store in India. Currently, app developers are limited to using only one app store, Google Playstore, to distribute their apps. The Indus Appstore aims to provide an alternative distribution channel for developers to tap into the Indian Android market.
In addition to distribution, the Indus Appstore will also assist developers in acquiring new users through multilingual app discovery. It plans to offer a dedicated section called “Launch Pad” to provide startups and new app launches with better visibility and search optimization.
The Indus Appstore offers a range of developer tools and features to address the challenges faced by Android developers. These include round-the-clock customer support based in India, the option to list apps in 12 Indian languages, and the ability to increase brand awareness through engaging videos.
The Indus Appstore aims to stand out from other app stores by providing a localized experience for Indian users, offering a variety of features and tools to assist developers, and ultimately providing an alternative distribution channel for Android apps in India.
