The Shire of the Hobbits comes to life in Abruzzo

Take a fantastic story, a dreamy geologist who is a pastry chef, two hectares of land and a crowdfunding platform. Mix the ingredients and… Welcome to Middle-earth!

From dream to reality thanks to collective financing.

Middle-earth in which “The Lord of the Rings” is set, the famous novel by JR Tolkien and film trilogy by Peter Jackson, is becoming reality thanks to the crazy and tenacious idea of a young geologist and pastry chef named Nicolas Gentile, future mayor of the Half-man County, also called Gentile Shire.

The Gentile Shire project will be the more or less faithful representation (the Italian building and bureaucratic constraints are more stringent than those of the imagination) of the enchanted and bucolic country of the hobbits, the creatures protagonists of the famous saga of the Lord of the Rings. From the small houses with round windows set in the hill, to the atmosphere of loving kindness that dwells in the hearts and streets of the Shire, everything will be as we first imagined and then seen in the novel and the film.

The Shire of the hobbits between architectural constraints and humanity.

In fact, the project has two parts, the architectural one and the experiential one: within a hilly and wooded land of two hectares, in the heart of Abruzzo, a 350 square meter Large Hobbit House is being built for hospitality, made of rooms, labyrinthine corridors, lounges, dining and game rooms, surrounded by four other smaller hypogean houses also intended for the guests of the Shire, and obviously by an inn to party in the manner of the hobbits. All eco-sustainable and environmentally friendly, with high energy efficiency.

However, Nicolas Gentile’s idea does not stop at hospitality: the Shire will not be an amusement park or a holiday village, but a real place dedicated to kindness and hospitality, where time passes slower, and the relationships between people are governed by sharing and good feelings. The same spirit that also animated the protagonists of the film saga, put together in a video on Youtube in which Elijah Wood (alias Frodo Baggins) and his company urge the public to support the project through the crowdfunding platform.

When crowdfunding goes beyond the imagination.

As for the practical aspect of the matter, the Gentile Shire project is sent thanks to the stubbornness of Nicolas and the generosity of the donors, who through the crowdfunding campaign, active since September and recently curated by the Idea3Di company – more than ten fundraisers carried out from 2016 to today – aims to reach the financial goal of one and a half million euros and be active as early as next summer.

The project of the Gentile Shire, through crowdfunding, is thus aimed at all the people who at least once in their life have dreamed of living in an enchanted land, in the name of kindness and conviviality, in short, of the same principles that animate the financing project set up by Nicolas. A crazy project whose happy ending we are waiting for.
